We, the former users of the website known as 'The Pirate Bay', and members of the online internet collective known as 'Anonymous', would like to make the following statement in the plainest possible terms.
WE WILL NOT PAY A SINGLE PENNY TO USE THE PIRATE BAY, EVER.
We are PIRATES. This means we do not pay for anything.
Fuck you, fuck the RIAA, and the MPAA, fuck the copyright owners, and fuck the corrupt Swedish legal system which allowed a BIASED JUDGE with CONFLICT OF INTEREST to preside over the 'Pirate Bay' trial.
If you go ahead with the sale, we are committed to deserting the site. We look forward to seeing the bemused looks on your faces when The Pirate Bay has almost no users and it falls from its current position as 'one of the 100 most popular internet sites'. It is popular because WE made it so. We made the Pirate Bay what it is, and we can destroy it.
As it is, consider the money you have spent on accquiring the Pirate Bay WASTED. We remind you that the Pirate Bay logo is a public domain image and that anyone else may use and you have NO legal recourse against them for doing so. You also may as well change the name of the site, since it will no longer truly be a 'Pirate' site.
We have also not ruled out the possibility of DDoS attacks against both your company's main site and against 'The Pirate Bay' once the takeover is complete.
Make no mistake, you are taking OUR site against OUR will, and we are not happy.

Jeez, how about not sounding like a communist huh? Being a pirate does not mean you never pay for anything. If a working copyright system (something like less record labels and more of bands owning their own music, which seems to be the way we're going) is put in place, wouldn't it be better if someone was paid? I mean really, free culture is great, and if there is a possibility of a sustained reality where it is provided, then heck, go for it! But today, it's not.
ReplyDeleteThe world is a marketplace, we haven't found a better way of continuing this unprecedented upward surge of mankind we've seen the last hundred years. Culture has been created by everyone and consumed by everyone at levels never seen before. Do you want proof of the free market working? The Pirate Bay is the result! The Pirate Bay is a result of a flawed market with the wrong kind of regulations, the culture industry was to slow to react to the internet and was punished for it. So what needs to happen? The essence of the evolutionary spirit is what needs to happen.
The way I see it, the internet is the last freedom some people have, consider China, with all of its' restrictions some people still can have freedom here, consider the USA, we may claim to be free, but we are not, we are not FREE to drive the speed we want, to drink when we want, to do most things till we "Become of age"... Things like this show that big corps. are removing our freedom here.
